John W. “JC” Cunius, Jr., 96, of Downingtown, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Paoli Hospital. He was the husband of Ann Ferrentino Cunius, sharing 24 years of marriage.
Born in Wilkes Barre, PA on April 6, 1926, he was the son of the late John W. Cunius, Sr. and Edna Jones Cunius. Leaving high school early to serve his country during World War II, he was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. After returning from the war, John was a successful entrepreneur, starting his own roofing business. He built the homes his family lived in as his children grew up in West Chester. He loved being a father that was always involved in his kids’ lives, supporting their activities and coaching teams. John loved hunting, camping and traveling, and he was an avid horseman in his early years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Downingtown, Knights of Columbus and the Elks Lodge. He enjoyed his time spent in Florida six months out of the year with his wife, Ann, and most of all, he loved his family.
Surviving in addition to Ann are his children Anne Marie Corcoran (the late Joseph) of Tampa, FL, Lillian C. Moore (William) of West Chester, John W. Cunius, III (Peggy) of Downingtown, Edward A. Cunius (Mary Beth) of West Chester, Edie M. MacCarty (Keith) of Exton, Colette D. Sarmento (the late Luigi) of West Chester, step-son Michael Ferrentino (Adriane) of Vero Beach, FL and step-daughter Cheryl Shaefer (Douglas) of Buffalo, NY; seventeen grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Lillian Costello Cunius, his daughter Linda K. Cunius and a sister Juanita Carlton.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at 11 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 332 Manor Avenue, Downingtown, PA 19335. Viewing will be held from 9:45 – 10:45 am prior to mass at the church. Burial will take place in St. Agnes Cemetery with military honors.
