Joan Helen (McCabe) Reynolds of West Brandywine, formerly of Kennett Square passed away peacefully on June 20, 2018 after a courageous battle with dementia. She was the daughter of the late Felix and Loretta (Hughes) McCabe. She was 83 years old.
A devoted mother, grandmother and wife she always put her family first. She was especially devoted to her husband, Ambrose caring for him through many years of illness and infirmity. Never wanting to leave his side, they were together during his final hours. Throughout her life, Joan was a busy and intrepid traveler, often accompanying Ambrose on trips and making her way to many spots off the beaten path, enjoying domestic as well as foreign travel. Her final trip was to Rome, thrilled to take Communion in St. Peter’s Basilica. With an open heart, there was always room for one more at her table. Joan was an excellent cook and always enjoyed entertaining family and friends. Committed to her Irish heritage, she investigated her roots and prepared the McCabe Family history for future generations to cherish. A champion of children, Joan spent her working career in the Oxford and Kennett Square school systems. Her final post at the Concept School in Westtown was the culmination of years of helping kids and their families navigate and enjoy the educational experience to the fullest. As a rabid Eagles fan, she would have been so excited to know that they were Super Bowl Champs in February!!
Joan had an unwavering faith in God. Prior to her illness, she was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kennett Square, PA and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years.
Joan was predeceased by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 62 years, Ambrose D. Reynolds. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Christopher A. Reynolds, her sisters, Doris Hazel and Jean Chesluk and brother, James McCabe.
Joan is survived by son Stephen and wife Joann of Downingtown, PA, daughter Donna Reynolds Eash and husband Glen of Durham, NC and son Terrance and wife Patricia of Adamstown, PA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Stephen J.
