James J. Mackrell Jr.

May 21, 1942 ~ August 27, 2017 (age 75) 75 Years Old

James J. Mackrell Jr., age 75 of Glenmoore passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday August 27, 2017 with his loving family by his side.

Jim was always a Brooklyn boy at heart faithfully following the Dodgers and Giants through the years even as his family moved to Delaware when he was in high school and throughout the many home towns of his married life.

He is survived by his wife Carole (sometimes she pushed the house moves and sometimes he did) of 50 years and his three children – Gwynne and her husband Ken, Kevin and his wife Becky and Katie and her husband Chris. He had 5 grandchildren and a sister Grace who gladly reminds everyone she is much younger.

Jim had a BS degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware starting his career at Monsanto before entering his service in the US Army and being sent off to the Vietnam War.
His life took a turn when he returned and married Carole and started his long career in the pharmaceutical industry in international operations with Bristol Myers. It was soon off to Puerto Rico with 3 young children for 4 years and then back to Baltimore where he and Carole ran their own dermatological company called Torch Laboratories.
Soon Big Pharma called again (Rorer to RPR to Aventis to Sanofi-Aventis - really all the same company) and it was back to Pennsylvania in 1990. Just after settling in, especially at the Chester Valley Golf Club, he and Carole were soon off for a 4 year stint in England and then a year and a half in France before retiring in 2001.

After “retirement” Jim was able to devote more time to golf, act as project manager for the building of his parish’s new church and serve on the township Planning Commission. He and Carole always enjoyed travel and now traveling for fun instead of work, he completed visits to all seven continents. Together they took grandchildren when they reached the age of 12 to wherever they wanted to go - Italy, France and South Africa. There was still time for Suduko, options trading and, when pushed by Carole, some bridge.

Jim's Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday August 31, 2017 at 10 a.m. from St. Peter Church 2835 Manor Rd. West Brandywine Twp., where friends may visit from 8:30 to 9:45.
