James Edward Abrams

August 11, 1935 ~ April 1, 2018 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

James “Jim” Abrams, age 82, of Downingtown, PA, died peacefully on April 1, 2018, at Chester County Hospital.

Jim was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1935, and grew up in Queens, where he attended John Adams High School. He went on to Columbia College, Columbia University and graduated in 1957 with an AB degree in Liberal Arts. While in college, he excelled in intercollegiate baseball and earned three varsity letters.

Jim was a member of the Naval ROTC and, following graduation, went on active duty as an Ensign assigned to a minesweeper, the USS Bulwark, in Charleston, South Carolina. While on active duty, he earned the rank of Lieutenant JG. At the end of his active tour of duty, Jim joined the Naval Reserve where he rose to the rank of Commander. Concurrently, he studied in the MBA program at the Columbia School of Business.

Throughout a good part of his business career, Jim was employed by large firms as a sales and marketing executive but, ultimately, enjoyed self-employment when he started his own firm, Jener Associates.

He loved baseball and encouraged kids to play. True to his bliss, he coached girls’ softball for the LYA and volunteered his time to East Caln Township. He also had a great sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke, an occasional “groaner”, or a funny story.

Jim will be greatly missed by his wife of 56 years, Rosemarie, his daughters, Jennifer Bradley and Erica Abrams; and his granddaughters, Miranda, Juliana, Kali, and Greta. He also leaves a brother, Thomas (Tom) of Ringoes, New Jersey.

A memorial service for Jim will be held on May 26, 2018 at 12PM, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church: 104 South Village Ave, Exton, where friends and family may visit from 10:30AM-11:50AM. Telephone number: 610-363-6264. Burial will take place following service in church cemetery.
