J. Benson Brock

James Benson Brock, 66, of Coatesville, passed away unexpectedly at his home Thursday, February 28, 2019. Known as “Benson” to his friends and family, he was the loving husband of ten years to Donna Brock (nee Lawrenzi).

A retired pilot and professional pianist, Benson was born in Atlanta, GA on September 19th, 1952 to the late Hugh and Mary (Williams) Brock. He began his academic career at Penn State University, majoring in science and engineering, but after two years, finally decided to pursue his love of music and transferred to Temple University to attend their College of Music.

After graduating in 1975, he began instructing private students and tuning instruments with Taylor Music. Benson has tuned pianos for many well-known artists, including Frank Sinatra, Leonard Bernstein, as well as, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony.

While music was always his first passion, flying became another important aspect of his career and life; which led to a 40 year pilot career. Benson started flying with Pan-Am, and several other airlines, ending his career with Air-Wisconsin where he met his loving wife, Donna.

Benson and Donna had just celebrated their 10th anniversary on February 21st in Europe. He will be deeply missed by his friends and family and all who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Donna, Benson is survived by his son, Tyler Brock of Wilmington, N.C.; his step children, Tony (wife Ashley) Pazak, Corey Pazak, and Brandon Pazak; nephews, Hugh “Quinn” Brock (wife Kim), and Jeff Brock (wife Sarah); and niece Susannah Brock Cornes (husband Mishe). Benson is also survived and missed by other dear family and many friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Hugh Brock.

Services for Benson will be held Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 4:00pm, at the James J. Terry Funeral Home COATESVILLE (Valley Township Location) 1060 W. Lincoln Hwy. Coatesville Pa, 19320 with visitation prior from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.
