Gary A. Teears, 73, of Downingtown, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Colleen D. (O’Sullivan) Teears, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Elmer F. and Mildred L. (Thompson) Teears.
Growing up in Southwest Philadelphia, Gary loved playing Pinochle and stick ball with the neighborhood guys. He loved everything about growing up in Southwest Philly; the corner deli to grab his bologna and cheese, pinball machines, playing on the playground at St. Barney’s, Philly Pretzels, and hoagies (according to Gary, no one makes a better hoagie than Reen’s!). Gary was a gifted saxophone player and played all through his school years and was named “All State” musician. Gary also had the honor of playing in the Mummers Parade when he was in High School.
Gary attended LaSalle College on an ROTC scholarship, and upon his graduation, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Army. Early in his military career, Gary was stationed in Kaiserslautern, Germany and later stationed in El Paso, Texas. Gary proudly served his country from 1970 to 1974. Gary loved the years he spent in the military and spoke of them often. Following his military years, he spent the next 30 years at Smith & Nephew, where he had an extraordinary career in medical sales.
Gary loved his family more than anything. He adored his seven grandsons and was looking forward to the arrival of his first granddaughter in September. Gary also enjoyed traveling, spending time at the Jersey Shore, Doo-wop music, cooking and grilling. He had a passion for good food and enjoyed spending time at local fine-dining establishments with his wife and close friends. He was an avid marksman and gun collector and enjoyed spending time at the range.
In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his son, Brian J. Teears (Patty); his daughters, Jennifer L. DiMonte (Timothy), Katherine E. Nowosielski (Michael) and daughter-in-law Melissa; a brother, Dr. Robert J. Teears (Magdalene) and by seven grandsons, Connor, Brendan, Thomas, Aiden, Brady, Tanner and Cooper. Gary was predeceased by a son, Christopher J. Teears, in 2017. Gary is also survived by nieces, nephews, and very dear friends.
A funeral service with Military honors will be held at 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 22, 2022 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 3:00-4:15 p.m.
Interment will be private with the family.
