Gabriel George Luther, Ph.D., 88, of Avondale, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2019 at Park Lane at Bellingham in West Chester, PA.
He was the beloved husband of Marjorie Johnson Luther, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Meyer and Elizabeth Rosenberg Luther.
He proudly served in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
He was a graduate of Brooklyn College (B.S.), University of Maryland (M.S.) and The American University (Ph.D.).
He spent his career as an experimental physicist with the National Bureau of Standards (NBS) and the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
In 1981, he helped redetermine the universal Newtonian gravitational constant at the NBS.
He was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society in 1995.
He enjoyed flying as a pilot, golf, surf fishing, carpentry and tinkering in the basement.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Carole Sue Rubin, his sons Adam and Noah and granddaughter Serena.
Services will be held privately with the family.
