Frederick Bopp III

Frederick Bopp III, 76, of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Sally Remington Bopp with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.

Fred was born in the Bronx, New York on October 1, 1944 to the late Lillian Dammer Bopp and Frederick Bopp, Jr. He graduated in 1966 from Brown University with a Bachelor of Science in Geology. Fred served as a commissioned officer in the United States Navy from 1966 to 1970, which included time served in the Viet Nam war. He then graduated from the University of Delaware in 1973 with a Masters Degree in Geology, and then again in 1980 with a Ph.D. in Geology. Fred’s professional accomplishments included acting as the Senior Geologist and Vice President of the Geosciences Department at Roy F. Weston Inc. in West Chester, PA from 1979 to 1996, and then as a geological consultant until he retired in 2015.

Fred loved singing in the United Methodist Church of West Chester Chancel Choir and the Chester County Choral Society. He also loved cooking and reading, and could always be found with a book in his hands. He loved his pets, especially his little “Sadie”.

In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by his children, Stefanie Remington Benson and Christopher Ward Bopp, and his grandson, Jonathan Everett Benson.

A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2021.
