Evan Russell, Jr. of West Chester, passed away the evening of January 17, 2020, surrounded by his family. Evan was the son of the late Evan Russell, Sr. and Marian Louise Waltz; and was the loving husband of 58 years to Janice Russell (nee Carpenter).
Evan proudly served in the United States Air Force for 23 years and retired as a Captain in 1978. He was a 1953 graduate of the Carson Long Institute; a 1966 graduate of the University of Maryland, where he received his Bachelors of Arts in Accounting; and a 1976 graduate of the University of Southern California, where he received his Masters of Science in Education. He was a member of the Square and Compass Lodge #3 (Japan), National Railway Historical Society Lancaster Chapter, National Model Railroad Association, Lifetime member of Conklin Hollow Land Association (Flat Rock), Air Force Sergeant Association, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks (Rapid City, SD), American Legion Post 865, and the local Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Evan may be best known for his love of trains and was an avid collector of model trains. He loved Flat Rock and enjoyed going hunting or spending weekends there with his family. He also enjoyed spending weekends in Coudersport, PA and enjoyed four wheeling throughout the area. He loved to travel, especially on cruises, and kept many mementos from his service stations around the world.
In addition to his wife, Janice, Evan is survived by his son Evan Russell, III, daughter Ruthann Mowday (Brian), granddaughter Brianna Cummins (Owen), grandson Kyle Mowday , sister Caroline Morris (George), sister-in-laws Donna Russell and Marlene Fox, nieces, nephews and his beloved yorkie, Lucy. He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Russell.
Services for Evan will be held 11:00AM Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home 736 E. Lancaster Ave. Downingtown PA.
A viewing will be held Tuesday evening, January 21, at the funeral home from 6:00PM to 8:00PM as well as Wednesday 9:30AM – 10:45AM prior to the service. For additional information and online condolences please visit jamesterryfuneralhome.com.
