Esther G. Trethewey

Esther “Gerri” Trethewey, age 80, of West Chester, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Gerri was born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Thomas and Esther (nee Hammer) Foley.

Although quiet and humble, Gerri left a huge impact in this world.

Prior to moving to West Chester, Gerri was a 60 year member of the Church of the Holy Comforter in Drexel Hill, and then was a member of the Church of the Good Samaritan for 20 years. She served as a member of several bible study groups, most notably a couples group at the Church of the Holy Comforter, and at the church at the of The Good Samaritan, as well as for many years in the Community Bible Study of the Church of the Savior in Wayne.

Gerri studied art and for many years attended classes at the Mainline Art Center, the Wayne Art Center, and the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association & Old Sculpin Gallery. Gerri was a talented artist, who specialized in water color paintings, and belonged to the Delaware Valley Art League, and a smaller art group known as the “Critters”. In her spare time, Gerri loved going to the beach and collecting shells. Besides an artistic touch, Gerri was a natural born athlete who participated in golf, softball, tennis, and most notably ice-skating.  Her true pride and joy was spending time with her family. Throughout her children’s lives she always remained present, and supported them in every activity, even into their adulthood. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend. Her love for people and her family was pure and kind, and she will truly be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived and missed by her husband Edmund C. Trethewey Jr., whom together shared 60 years of marriage, daughter, Melissa Caiazzo (John), son Edmund C. Trethewey III (Ann), sister Susan Shaw (William), 6 grandchildren; Amanda, Ashleigh, Ali, Devyn, Tristen, Carley, 3 great grandchildren, Lilly, Liam, and Bobby, and many dear friends and extended family.

A Celebration of Gerri’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, 11am, at The Church of the Good Samaritan, 212 West Lancaster Avenue Paoli, PA 19301, where family and friends will be received from 10am-11am. Interment private.
