Eric S. Wenzel, 59, of Wallingford, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 17, 2019. He was the beloved husband of Sandra J. Witters Wenzel, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage.
Born in West Chester, he was the son of Gene Trabert Wenzel and the late Carl M. Wenzel.
Eric was a 1977 graduate of B. Reed Henderson High School where he was a member of the wrestling team. He went on to graduate from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA with a major in Accounting in 1981. While at Franklin and Marshall, he was an accomplished wrestler and a proud member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. He proudly competed in the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association Tournament in 1979, 1980, and 1981 placing fourth in the 1980 tournament. His senior year he served as co-captain on the wrestling team at Franklin and Marshall College.
In 1981 Eric started his career at Arthur Anderson & Co in Philadelphia and eventually moved on to work for Total Care, Inc. in Phoenixville, PA. For the last 16 years Eric dedicated his work to Freedom Medical, Inc. in Exton, PA where he was currently serving as the Chief Financial Officer.
After graduating college, Eric married his high school sweetheart Sandy and moved to Delaware County Pennsylvania where they settled in Wallingford and raised their 4 children. His hobbies included proudly supporting the Philadelphia Phillies and Green Bay Packers (even in the lean years). His loyalty to the Green Bay Packers football team extended to him becoming a shareholder of the Green Bay Packers. He enjoyed following motorsports and attending various races across the country, spending time with his family, and appreciating a fine scotch, bourbon or whiskey. Eric was an avid history enthusiast and enjoyed reading books on history, racing, football, and his various sports heroes. Eric was a steadfast family man, who’s favorite phrase was “Family is everything.”
In addition to his wife and mother, Eric is survived by his children, Jennifer J. Wenzel (Ryan Adams), Jessica J. Mathews (Franklin A., Jr.), Bradley S. Wenzel (Elizabeth H.) and Jacquelyn J. Barrett (Samuel T.); two brothers, Carl L. Wenzel (Karen) and Dale C. Wenzel and by two grandchildren, Abraham M. Mathews and Reagan C. Wenzel.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 9:00-10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in Birmingham Lafayette Cemetery, West Chester followed by a luncheon.
