(Eleanor) Diane Dougherty, age 77, died of complications due to leukemia on September 27, 2021. She was the daughter of the late John and Maria (Cicia) Esolen of Jermyn, PA. She was the youngest of eleven children. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Joseph, and her three children: Mark (Jill, Springfield, Delaware County), Amy (Brian Hicks, Wyomissing, PA), and Edward (Amy, Rohersville, MD). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and one sister, Theresa (Donald Overdorff).
Diane taught for more than thirty years in the Coatesville High School where she retired in 1999 as Department Chair. She loved reading and writing and she loved her students. After retirement, she was a teacher consultant for the NWP Branch at West Chester University. She co-authored two books on the teaching of writing published by Stenhouse Publishers.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11 AM St. Paul’s Lutheran Church: 548 Old Swede Rd, Douglassville, PA 19518. A Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:45 AM at the church.
