Edsel E. Rutenbar, 97, of Glen Mills, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at his residence.
Born in Farmington, Michigan, Edsel was the son of the late Harry Rutenbar and Evelyn (Goers) Forbes. He was the husband of the late Marjorie (Gibson) Rutenbar, who passed away in 2002.
Edsel proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps. He later graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Business Administration and began his long successful career in engineered product sales working until the age of 92. This career took him from Northville, Michigan to Old Bridge, New Jersey to Lionville, Pennsylvania to Springboro, Ohio and finally West Chester, Pennsylvania.
Edsel was a member of Concord Country Club. After his wife and family, Edsel loved to golf, a game he started to play as a young boy, accumulating countless tournament trophies and ultimately hitting a “hole-in-one” at the age of 90 on the 11th Hole at Concord Country Club.
Edsel is survived by his children: Linda Conlan, wife of Charles, of West Chester, James Rutenbar, husband of Cynthia, of West Chester, and Mary Parnell, wife of Jeffrey, of Malvern; grandchildren: Kristen, Brian, Eric, Matthew, Evan, Mia, and Marjorie; great-grandchildren: William, Helen, Jaime, Brooke, and one great-grandson due in August 2023; sister: Katherine Daily; son-in-law: William Rigney.
In addition to his wife and parents, Edsel was preceded in death by his daughter: Judy Rigney
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 from 9:45-10:45 AM at James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown. A funeral service will be held at 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will be conducted privately at the convenience of the family.
