Douglas L. Bracher, 68, of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at Chester County Hospital, West Chester.

Born in Plainfield, NJ, Douglas was the son of the late Robert and Martha (Bobravcan) Bracher. He was the beloved husband of Sandra (Wiley) Bracher. The couple shared 46 years of marriage.

Douglas was a 1970 graduate of Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. He proceeded to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Metallurgical Engineering from Lafayette College in 1974.  He worked for many years in the steel and heating industries, retiring in 2019.

Douglas was a member and former trustee of First Presbyterian Church, West Chester. He enjoyed coaching his daughter’s softball teams, sailing with friends on the Northeast River and spending time with family at his vacation home on Long Beach Island, NJ..  Watching his grandchildren learn to love the beach was his favorite pastime.

In addition to his wife, Douglas is survived by 3 daughters: Claire Philips, wife of Christopher, of Chester Springs, Robyn Blankenhagen, wife of John, of West Chester, and Jill Spern, wife of Kevin, of Haddon Township, NJ.. He is also survived by grandchildren: Kyle Philips, Kayla Philips, Eve Blankenhagen, Nora Spern, Leigh Blankenhagen and granddaughter Spern arriving very soon.

An outdoor memorial service will be held at James J. Terry Funeral Home, Inc., Downingtown in the near future.

Memorial contributions in Douglas’ name may be made to the his favorite charity, the Union County College Foundation in Cranford NJ.  This local college focuses on helping working adults earn certifications, skills or a college degree.
