Dorothy S. McAfoos

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Dorothy Schroder McAfoos, 95, of Downingtown, PA, formerly of Haddon Township, NJ, who passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, February 11, 2019, surrounded by her loving family.

Dorothy was born in New Brunswick, NJ, and later moved with her parents and four sisters to Collingswood, where she graduated from Collingswood High School.

She attended Hahnemann School of Nursing where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. She met the love of her life while at Hahnemann, a young resident named Louis McAfoos.  They were married 6 months later and were together for over 65 years.

Dotty spent her life as a homemaker and mother, occasionally assisting in her husband’s medical practice.

She was a member of the West Jersey Hospital Doctors’ Wives Auxiliary and the Alter Guild of Grace Episcopal Church in Haddonfield N.J. She volunteered as a PTA parent for many years and aided in the care of disabled children. Dotty was also a member of the Golden Girls club at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Exton, PA.

Dotty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and loved spending time with her family whom brought her enormous joy.

Mrs. McAfoos is survived by her children, Louis G. McAfoos, III (Tricia Meenan) and Diane M. Hydrean (Paul Hydrean); grandchildren, Sara McCue, Christen Verbofsky, Alex Hydrean, and Ben Hydrean; and great grandchildren, Lincoln and Lyla Verbofsky and Callan and Nolan McCue. She was proceeded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Rev. Louis G. McAfoos, Jr., M.D.

A memorial service will be celebrated by The Rev. Maxine Maddox Dornemann on Saturday, February 23rd at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1105 E. Lincoln Hwy., Exton, PA 19341. Interment will be at Locustwood Cemetery in Cherry Hill, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Dorothy’s name to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church at the above address.
