David W. Martin, Jr. of West Brandywine died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at home after a heroic battle with cancer. He was 56.
David was the beloved husband of 29 years to Bobbi (Gavin) Martin; the admired father to his children, David W. Martin III (Maureen), Katie Simcox (Chris), and Daniel Martin; and the dearly loved Pop-Pop to his granddaughters Sophia, Adeline, Finley, and Amelia.
David is also survived by his parents David W. Martin, Sr. and Catherine Harding Martin; his sisters Kathy Crane (Stephen) and Mary Portner (Harvey); his brother Brian Martin (Tina), as well as many in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
David was born and raised in Norristown. He was a 1979 graduate of Bishop Kenrick High School. He worked for U.S. Chrome Corporation in Norristown for over 30 years, where he most recently served as the plant Superintendent. David was a diehard Philadelphia sports fan. He was extremely excited to see his Eagles win the Super Bowl earlier this year. David’s joy was his family. He loved every moment he spent with them, especially during their family vacations to Ocean City, NJ every summer. He had an incredibly special bond with his children, who all considered him to be their best friend. He treasured the simple things in life, like fishing and taking his best buddy, his pet beagle Baxter, for long walks at Hibernia Park. Later in life, his greatest affection was spending time with his four granddaughters. He often spoke about how being called Pop-Pop was his greatest pride. David was truly the center of his family’s heart and he will be missed dearly.
