Carole Elizabeth Darwin, 79, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Charles R. Darwin, Jr., with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.
Born & raised in the Philadelphia area, she was the daughter of the late James Harry Hall and Martha Gail Buzby Hall. She received her RN-BS Nursing degree from University of Pittsburgh. She served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed at the US Naval Hospital in San Diego for 2 years. She then became Nursing Supervisor at Presbyterian Hospital and Charge Nurse at Chester County Hospital. During that time, she and her husband built their own home in Downingtown.
At 41 years old, Carole had their daughter Jessica and retired from nursing. She went on to create her own small businesses including creating children’s birthday parties as well as planting & selling pachysandra to finance her daughter’s ice skating career. Later she created an interior decorating business using her unique and well known creative talents. Carole’s love of art led her to volunteer in “Art Goes to School” as Chairman of the Downingtown chapter and a member of the board for the tri-state area. Art was a way of life and she loved to educate others.
Anyone who knew Carole, knew she loved animals. She trained her beloved blue chihuahua Boo, as well as a marvelous rescue dog, Bristol, to be therapy dogs. Volunteering and taking them into Bryn Mawr Hospital every week for over 6 years. In addition, she volunteered as the Chaplain’s Assistant, writing five poetic prayers to read to the sick and their families in times of need. Lifting everyone’s spirits made her thrive and feel most alive.
In addition to her husband, Carole is survived by her daughter, Jessica Lyn Darwin; her step-daughter, Cheryl Kaufman; a sister, Marilyn Eyles; a step-grandson, Nicholas Kaufman and by her best friend, Sharon Silverthorne. She was predeceased by her brother, James H. Hall, Jr.
