July 9, 1939 ~ June 11, 2019 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Tribute

Barbara Grace Donovan, age 79, of West Chester, PA, passed away unexpectedly the evening of Tuesday, June 11, 2019 with her loving husband by her side. She recently celebrated 60 wonderful years of marriage to Thomas Edward Donovan. She was born July 9, 1939, in West Chester, a daughter to the late Edward Eugene Bernard and Grace Lydia Bernard (nee Brown). Barbara is now reunited with her parents, her sister Shirley Ann Whitney and her infant daughter Kathy Sue Donovan.

Barbara lived her life in love and service to her family, friends and community led by her faith in God. She graduated from West Chester Joint Senior High School in 1957 and remained active in organizing and attending class reunions. As her children grew, Barbara supported them in their activities. She served as a Girl Scout leader for many years and assisted in Boy Scouting adventures. She was the Downingtown High School Marching Band announcer, a booster and trip chaperone. She was active in the West Bradford Fire Company Ladies’ Auxiliary. She treasured holiday celebrations, family traveling vacations and Apache Wanderers Camping Club weekends. She became a NASCAR fan and attended many races.

Her grandchildren were a constant source of joy. She was so proud attending sporting events, band and orchestra concerts, dance recitals, Eagle Scout projects, school events and graduations. Barbara retired from Weston Solutions in 2003 after holding a management position in the financial department. Since then, she and her husband have traveled with the Holiday Rambler RV Club to many state, national and international rallies. She held multiple offices in the local and state clubs and cherished the many friends she made along the way. In the fall she put on her blue and white clothes to kick back and cheer on the Penn State football team. She especially liked escaping the cold winter months to the warmer climate of the Gold Coaster Park in Homestead FL and visiting with friends from across the country. During her life she managed to visit all 50 states. Her life was enriched by close family ties and the multitude of friends through the years.

In addition to her husband, Thomas, Barbara is survived by two sons and a daughter, Scott Edward (Pamela) of Whitesboro NY, Michael Thomas (Jocelyn) of Coatesville PA and Sandra June of Thorndale PA; four grandchildren, Caitlin Lydia Bentley (Thomas), Emily Jean, Ryan Thomas and Sean Michael; several nieces and nephews; and other extended family. Many special furry friends have also been an important part of her family.
