August Herman Niemeyer, Herman to all who knew him and loved him, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at home. Sharing 43 years of marriage, his wife Joani (Parker) Niemeyer was at his side. He was 87.

Born in Essen, Germany on May 25, 1934, he was the son of the late Gerhart and Lucie (Lenzner) Niemeyer. He began his life in the United States at the age of 3 in Princeton, NJ amidst the academic community of the university. Herman received his Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia University, and attended law school at Yale before he began his career with AT&T. Eventually he became a Certified Financial Planner, founding his successful business, The Niemeyer Group. Also a veteran of the United States Navy, he was a Naval Aviator aboard the U.S.S. Roosevelt and member of the Fighting 14 Top Hatters, flying an F3H-2N VF-14 Demon. Herman, call name “Nemo”, fondly recalled many colorful adventures of his times with his fellow officers. He was an enthusiastic competition sailor, and loved recreationally sailing his international 470, as well. He truly enjoyed jazz, drinking wine, having parties, making friends and celebrating family. His smiling eyes were infectious.

In addition to his wife Joani, he is survived by his children: David Niemeyer (Jess), Mark Niemeyer (Janine), daughter Rona, Jason Fletcher (Joey), Joshua Fletcher (Suzanne). Herman was proud of grandchildren Sean, Amy, Ethan, Colin, Lauren, Hannah, Liam, Madeline, Christian and Aidan. He was preceded in death by his brother Lucian Niemeyer and brother-in-law Mel Silver. Surviving also are siblings Paul Niemeyer, Lisa Silver, Christian Niemeyer and many sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 16th at 12 PM at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, 689 Sugartown Rd., Malvern, PA 19355. Viewing will be at the church from 10:30 – 11:45 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in The Oaklands Cemetery, West Chester.
