Antoinette Victoria Paul (Halcovich) passed away peacefully on Monday December 31, 2018 at her home in Downingtown Pa. surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ranshaw, PA on December 20, 1924. She married Walter Paul (deceased 2011) in 1950 in Shamokin Pa. where they met in the Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church choir. Walter had returned from serving in the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. During that time Antoinette contributed to the war effort, receiving her Junior Engineer Certificate in order to work in New Jersey. Later Antoinette was employed by Shroyers Dress Company as a clothing model. During her child rearing days of daughters Deborah Paul Consoli, MD and Lois Paul, she continued her intense interest in history, classical music, artistic pursuits, and knitting and sewing. She was a master of the art of Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs). One of her eggs ended up in the White House in 1962. She was featured in a newspaper article for her Pysanky designs in 1975. Two years later another newspaper article featured her handmade doll houses.
She was devoted to her family, children, and five grandchildren, Nicholas, Genevieve, Tristram (deceased), Aubrey and Alexandra, one great-granddaughter, Acelynn Noelle and one granddaughter in law, Ally. Also survived by a sister Olga Rovito, and several nieces and nephews, pre-deceased by a sister Ann Rovito,
She loved teaching children how to make Pysanky. She loved cats, she enjoyed reading biographies of people she admired, and she loved road trips, especially to Washington, DC, New York City and the Jersey Shore. She was known for her open heart, genuine kindness and generosity. She was very much beloved by all who knew her, and will be greatly missed by her loving family and friends.
A Divine Liturgy will be held on Saturday January 5, 2019 at 11 AM at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church 550 Hurst Street, Bridgeport, PA 19405 (church is on corner of Union Avenue & Hurst Street); Bridgeport, Pennsylvania 19405 where friends may call from 10 AM until time of service
