Albert D. Porta

Albert D. Porta, age 95, of Downingtown (formerly Coatesville), passed away July 19th at home, surrounded by family.

Al was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Connie DiSilvestro Porta. He was the son of the late Frank and Anna DiArcangelo Porta.

He was a 1942 graduate of Scott High School in Coatesville.

Al served in the U.S. Army during WW II from 1943 to 1945 as a military policeman, 504th MP Battalion, C Company, serving in Africa, Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. As a military policeman, Al was responsible for traffic control on beachheads, guarding captured enemy prisoners, as well as evacuating civilians from cities in combat areas. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Service Medal with six Bronze Stars, and the Victory Medal.

He retired from GO Carlson Inc. in Coatesville after 44 years. Al enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, who were the love of his life. In recent years his life was enriched by Thursday morning breakfast with GO Carlson buddies, his Friday morning coffee, and his Sunday morning espresso and biscotti with his beloved neighbors and friends. He just adored his family and his many wonderful friends and neighbors that were all so good to him. Al took pleasure in watching all types of sports. His philosophy in life was to enjoy simple pleasures and to cherish each day. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Lodge and St. Joseph’s Church of Downingtown.

Al is survived by his children Dennis (Jackie), David (Carol), Debbie (Joe), grandchildren Greg (Kerri) and Amber, and his godson John. He was predeceased by his son Douglas, and grandson, Jeffrey Porta. Also, his brothers Pat, and Dominic, and sisters, Anne, and Lillian.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 26, 2019 at St. Joseph Church, 332 Manor Avenue, Downingtown. Family and friends will be received from 9-10:30 a.m. in the church.

Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtown.
