Frank Elton Weikel died peacefully at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, John and Janet DiBartolomeo of Downingtown, on Saturday, January 21, 2012 in his 100th year.
Born in Philadelphia, Elton was the son of the late Frank P. and Ivy Weidner Weikel. He was the widower of Virginia Whitford Weikel, with whom he had celebrated 50 years of marriage prior to her death in 1991.
Elton attended school in Ambler, but graduated from Phoenixville High School after his family moved during his senior year. After high school, he moved to California where he worked and attended Long Beach College. Upon his return to the East Coast, he lived in West Chester and attended Drexel and Temple Universities.
For more than 50 years, Elton worked for Schramm, Inc. in West Chester as a salesman for their pneumatic and electric equipment. His territory took him from Massachusetts to Florida.
Elton enjoyed traveling, reading and photography. In his earlier years, he enjoyed deer hunting in Potter County as a member of the Eagle Hunting Club. He enjoyed the mountains and the beaches.
Since the death of his wife, Elton has enjoyed traveling with his daughters and son-in-law in their recreational vehicles as a member of the Friends on Wheels Camping Club.
Elton was one of the oldest and longest members of the Central Presbyterian Church in Downingtown. In his earlier years, he had been active in the church as a member of the Session, Trustees and Deacons. For greater than 50 years, he was a member of the Downingtown Lions Club and a member of the West Chester Masonic Lodge for more than 65 years, attaining the level of 32 degree Mason.
Elton was predeceased by his wife, Virginia in 1991, his daughter, Nancie Jean in 2006, and his sister, Helen Rhodes in 2008. He is survived by his daughter, Janet W. DiBartolomeo and her husband, John F. DiBartolomeo, three nieces and four nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 27, at Central Presbyterian Church, 100 W. Uwchlan Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335. A visitation will be held on Thursday evening from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. followed by a Masonic Service at 8:30 p.m. at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, and then at the church on Friday prior to the service from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer.
