Ruth Piersol Lammey, 91, of East Brandywine Township died on Thursday, March 16, 2017 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of Jacob C. Lammey who died in 2001. At the time of Jay’s death they had been married for 57 years.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1925 in Lyndell, Pa. Daughter of Lester and Clara Lewis Piersol, she lived in East Brandywine Township all her life.

Ruth graduated from Guthriesville High School in 1941 and Downingtown High School in 1943 where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She worked at the Downingtown Motor Company as a Secretary-Bookkeeper and as Secretary in the Controller’s office of the Chester County Court House.

Later she worked as Secretary and Cafeteria Manager at the Brandywine Wallace and Pickering Valley Elementary Schools.

Ruth was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church for 80 years where she was active in the Bethany Bible Class, Helping Hands, The Care Team, and the Hopewell Passion Play. She was also a Life member of the East Brandywine Fire Company and the East Brandywine Fire Co. Auxiliary where she served as treasurer for 25 years. She also served as secretary and treasurer of the Woman’s Club of Downingtown.

When her girls were younger, Ruth was a Girl Scout leader, a leader in the Parent Teachers Association and an avid supporter of Downingtown Girls Athletics.

She is survived by three daughters; Linda L. Mento, wife of Thomas Mento, Sandra A. Lammey, and Barbara Jayne Lammey, all of East Brandywine. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a brother John L. Piersol and a sister Alletah Piersol Glauner.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 23, 2017 at Hopewell United Methodist Church, 852 Hopewell Road, Downingtown, Pa. 19335, where family and friends will be received from 9:30-10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the East Brandywine Community Foundation, memo – Parks and Recreation, 1214 Horseshoe Pike, Downingtown, Pa.19335 or to the Hopewell United Methodist Church at the above address.
