Mary E. Doyle of Downingtown
Mary E. Doyle, 86, of Downingtown passed away on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Paoli Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Doyle, with whom she shared 53 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2008.
She grew up in Millbrook, New York, the eldest daughter of the late Raymond and Katherine Sturiale Evangelista. She attended Millbrook High School and was the class valedictorian. Mary went on to the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, New Jersey, where she received a bachelor science degree in biology.
Mary raised her children in Oyster Bay, New York, for 32 years. She retired to Downingtown 26 years ago to be close to her twin daughters, grandchildren, and as the years passed, great grandchildren.
Mary was a long-time parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Downingtown where she was active in the choir and she was also active as a teacher and volunteer at the Parish School. She also enjoyed making holiday crafts and she participated in the fall craft shows every year.
She is survived by her five children, Cecelia D. (William) Harkness, Kathleen D. (John) Somers, Gregory T. (Lisa) Doyle, Christopher J. Doyle and Timothy J. (Cathie) Doyle; brother, John (Dorothy) Evangelista; sisters, Joanne Gunther, Lena Kristensen and Evelyn (Richard) Kocot; 12 grandchildren, Leslie (Chase) Bradford, Kevin (Caitlin) Harkness, Brian Harkness (Marco Saladino), Andrew Harkness, Gina (Tim) Barnes, Thomas (Sara) Rivas, Daniel (Christie Jackson), Timothy (Courtney) Rivas, Maria Rivas, Meghan Doyle, Lauren Doyle and Erin Doyle; and by 9 great grandchildren. Mary was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Rivas and by a brother Raymond Evangelista.
An evening viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, February 9, 2018 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018 at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Avenue, Downingtown, where family and friends will be received from 9:45-10:45 a.m.
Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtown.
