Lucy J. DiLuigi

June 29, 1924 ~ March 25, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old
Lucy Jennings DiLuigi, 92, went home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, March 25, 2017 at St. Martha’s Manor in Downingtown.
Married for 63 years, she was the loving wife of the late Anthony DiLuigi, who preceded her in death 7 years ago.
Born June 29, 1924 in West Virginia, Lucy was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Louise Kessler Blumberg. At the age of two years, she moved with her family to Downingtown, where she spent the rest of her life. She was a talented musician and loved to sing and dance. She played the french horn in the school band and was a majorette.
She graduated from Downingtown High School, class of ’43, and attained her Registered Nursing Degree in Sept. 1946 at Delaware Hospital in Wilmington. She worked at both Memorial and Chester County Hospitals in West Chester for many years. After her retirement, she became the “Candy Mom” at CC Hospital where she nurtured countless young girls in the “Candy Striper Program”, many of whom are still nursing today. Known for her kindness and service to others, she was often referred to as the “Angel of Mercy” in the neighborhood. She tended to all who were sick or infirmed, dispensing medicine, home cooked meals and companionship. Lucy never said “NO” to anyone.
A devout Roman Catholic, she was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Downingtown, where she participated in the Sodality, Ladies of St. Joseph and the Charismatic Prayer group. Her greatest joy in life was loving and caring for her family.
Lucy is survived by her five children, sons Steven (Trudy), Michael (Barbara), David (Cathy) and Richard (Sue) and her daughter, Diane Polk. Fifteen grandchildren: Christopher, Jimmy, Michael, Anthony, Sarah, Ashley, Courtney, Brian, Kristin, Kelly, Casey, Madelyn, Timothy, Daniel and Benjamin and nine great grandchildren, and sister, Kay Tobleman of Downingtown. She was predeceased by her sister Honey Sack of Florida.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 pm on Thursday, March 30 at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Ave., Downingtown, PA. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 10:00 – 11:45 am in the chapel. Interment will be held directly following the Mass in St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Lucy’s honor can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market St., Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106 or online at www.alz.org.
