Leon Stewart, Sr. of Coatesville, formerly of Exton
Leon Stewart, Sr., 89, of Coatesville, formerly of Exton, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the Coatesville V.A. Medical Center.
He was the beloved husband of the late Betty J. (nee Detterline) Stewart, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage at the time of her passing in 2004.
Born in West Chester, Leon was the son of the late Paul Leon and Lillian (nee Demoll) Stewart.
Mr. Stewart was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, proudly serving for our country for 14 years and in both World War II and the Korean War.
He worked as a machinist for Milprint/Reynolds Aluminum in Downingtown for more than 30 years.
Mr. Stewart enjoyed hunting and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, West Caln Sportsman Club, Elverson Rod and Gun Club and the Indian King Hunting Club in Tioga County.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0475 in Downingtown, the Downingtown Moose Lodge, a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 106 in West Chester, and he attended his Navy reunions annually.
Mr. Stewart enjoyed spending time with his extended family and was affectionately known as "Pop-Pop Stew".
He is survived by daughter, Tina L.(Harry) Nask of Coatesville, Leon Stewart Jr., of Wagontown and Stu Stewart of Honey Brook; a sister, Caroline Clifton of Toms River, N.J.; 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was pre-deceased by a brother, Paul R. Stewart.
A memorial service will take place at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335, on Tuesday, February 21 at 6 pm, where family and friends are invited to call between 4:00 - 5:45 pm. Inurnment will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Coatesville V.A. Medical Center Hospice, 1400 Black Horse Hill Rd., Coatesville, PA 19320.
