Arthur W. Rothe

Arthur Walter Rothe, 74, of Downingtown, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at his home.  He was the beloved husband of the late Deborah Ann Matt, who passed away in 2018. Born in Morristown, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Heinz Walter and Eleanore Loeffler Rothe.

Art was a wonderful uncle, neighbor, friend and coworker.  He graduated from the University of Delaware with a degree in Civil Engineering and spent most of his career as the Township Engineer for Middletown Township, Delaware County. He enjoyed getting to know township residents and business owners, while helping them with their requests.  One of his favorite duties while working at the township was plowing snow during snowstorms. He had a funny sense of humor and appreciated a good joke or prank. He loved to host parties at his pool and enjoyed his membership in the local Porsche Club. Generous with his time & knowledge, he often volunteered his engineering prowess even in retirement. He could repair and build just about anything. In addition, there was never a fast food coupon that Art could pass up. Although Art did like to travel, his favorite spot to vacation started as a boy going to Lake George, NY.

He was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Elliott Rothe and is survived by his nieces and nephew, Mary Lou McFarland (Robert), Jack Weaver (Jeanne) and Beth Anne Joyce (Jim); and by his great nieces and nephews, Rob (Leah) McFarland, Justin (Taylor Shockey) Joyce, Jonathan (Ali) Joyce, Megan McFarland, Sarah Weaver (Joel Scarborough, fiancé), Kerry McFarland and Christina (Joey) Siemering. He is also survived by his former wife, Lynn Moody.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2024 at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Avenue, Downingtown.  Family and friends will be received from 5:00-6:30 p.m.

Interment will be private with the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Chester County Food Bank or to the Lord's Pantry.
