Herbert Clayton Swarm

Herbert Clayton Swarm, 72, of Exton, passed away after a brief illness on Monday January 2, 2012.   Many knew him with the nickname of Scott. 

He was the beloved husband of Dolores Christine Swarm (nee Mark), with whom he shared 45 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia on July 6, 1939, Herb was the son of the late Herbert Cornelius Swarm and Ella Irene Rapine. 

His family moved to Roxborough where they stayed for only a few years, before moving to Narberth.  Herb attended Narberth Public School.  Being interested in all sports, Herb became an outstanding member of all the boy’s teams, and belonged to the Cub and Boy Scouts.  At the age of 16, he attended Ardmore Junior and Lower Merion High School.  He graduated from West Chester Joint High School in 1957, and he earned a BS in Economics (Accounting Major) from Villanova University in 1962.  

Herb proudly served in the U.S. Navy with VF-143 (Fighter Squadron) and was a Vietnam Veteran in Combat Operations on the Aircraft Carrier “USS Constellation” CVA-64 in 1964 and 1965.

He worked as a Corporate Accountant for over 36 years, holding the titles of Secretary/ Treasurer, Controller, Plant Controller and Supervisor of general accounting positions at the companies J.I. Case, Aston Martin, Johnson Matthey, Freedom Chemical and Le-Jo Enterprises.       
             
In addition to his wife Dolores, Herb is survived by his two daughters, Christine Marie Kusnierczyk and Stacey Irene Paul; his three grandchildren; Sophia and Cora Kusnierczyk and Nathan Miles Paul; and his three sisters; Peggy Galambos, Elizabeth Valentino and Joan Corrado.  

An evening visitation will be held on Friday, January 6, 2011 from 6-8 pm at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown.   A morning visitation on Saturday, January 7 from 9:30am-10:15am will be held at the church, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30am at Ss. Philip & James Parish Church at 107 North Ship Road, Exton, PA.  Following Mass, interment will be in Philadelphia Memorial Park in Malvern, Pennsylvania. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Father Beiting Appalachian Mission Center, 332 Riverbend Road, Louisa, KY  41230.
