Albert D. “Al” Menna

Albert D. “Al” Menna, 87, of Downingtown, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Brandywine Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Iola-Gene Menna, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.

Born in Downingtown, he was the son of the late Donato and Fannie San Fillipo Menna.

He was a 1942 graduate of Downingtown High School and graduated from business school in 1947.

Mr. Menna proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during W.W. II. 

He was the owner of the Coffee Cup restaurant in Downingtown from 1958 until his retirement in 1987.  After his retirement, Al still enjoyed helping out at the Coffee Cup and spending time with his many friends there.

He was a lifetime member of Minquas Fire Co., and was a member of VFW Post #845, the American Legion, and St. Anthony’s Lodge. 

He enjoyed playing cards with friends, horse races and traveling.  He loved his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Danny Menna and wife, Mary Beth of Malvern, Valerie Donia and husband, Pete of Downingtown, Rick Menna and wife, Denice of Downingtown, and Renee Menna of Coatesville.  He was predeceased by his sisters, Betty Maskalick, infant sister Julia D. Menna, Anna Wemett and Julia Di Martin; and brothers, Matthew, Joseph and Carmen Menna. 

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 16 at St. Joseph Church, 338 Manor Ave., Downingtown.  A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 15 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Monday from 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown.  Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Downingtown.
