George L. McCann

George L. McCann, 81, of Downingtown, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2011 at Paoli Memorial Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth K. McCann (nee Kuchera), with whom he shared 53 years of marriage.

Born in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late George B. and Ann Stemmermann McCann.

He was a 1952 graduate of Villanova University.

George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Corporal and receiving the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

He was employed as a senior financial analyst with American National Can in Chicago, retiring in 1990 after 26 years of service.

He was a member of Ss. Philip and James Church in Exton, Chester County Senior Softball League in West Goshen, and American Legion Charles F. Moran Post #475.  Because of his love for animals and especially his passion for Golden Retrievers, he worked as a volunteer with DVGRR (Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue).

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sean M. McCann of Middletown, CT, Kathleen M. Cogswell of Brentwood, TN, C. Megan Hancock of Louisville, KY, Kerry M. McCann of Downingtown, and Jennifer T. Dimzoff of Twin Lakes, WI; and by 8 grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his son Kevin P. McCann.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 28, at Ss. Philip and James Church, 107 N. Ship Road, Exton, where family and friends may call from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery in West Brandywine.

Memorial donations may be made in his name to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation by going to www.jdrf.org; or to DVGRR, Inc. at dvgrr.org.
