James E. Lyons

James E. Lyons, 84, of Exton, passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Neighborhood Hospice of West Chester.  He was the beloved husband of Marie M. Lyons (nee Mikesh), with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Born in Lampeter, PA, he was the son of the late Garrett and Frances Neuwirth Lyons.

He attended St. Agnes High School in West Chester and served in the U.S. Army during WW II, achieving the rank of Technician Fourth Grade, earning the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign, Good Conduct and WW II Victory Medals.

He was last employed as a machinist for Lasko Products for 10 years, retiring in 1987.

Mr. Lyons was a member of SS. Philip and James Church in Exton, where he was a 26 year captain of the church bingo team, Minister of Hospitality, and captain of a collection counter team.  He was a charter member of Pope John Paul XXIII #5671 Council Knights of Columbus, Chester County Assembly #1873 Fourth Degree of Knights of Columbus, where he served as Faithful Navigator, West Chester AARP, and the Pennsylvania Reserve Defense Corps.  He was honored by the Chapel of the Four Chaplains.  Jim had a green thumb and enjoyed his flower and vegetable gardens.  He also enjoyed mall walking and bird watching.  He traveled abroad and throughout the United States. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Patricia Conboy and husband, Thomas of Doylestown, and their son Patrick Conboy and his fiancée, Erin West and her daughter MaeLee of Allentown, and their daughter Briana Conboy of Doylestown; and by his daughter, Kathryn Beech and husband, Robert of Wagontown, and their son, Jonathan Beech of Washington D.C., and their daughter Allison Beech of Wagontown.  He was predeceased by his siblings, Edward Lyons, Mary Jefferis and Frances Lyons.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 1, 2010 at SS. Philip & James Church, 107 N. Ship Road, Exton, where family and friends may call from 9:15 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.  Interment will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, West Chester.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to IHM Sisters, Camilla Hall, PO Box 675, Immaculata, PA 19345-0675.
