John G. (Jack) Kratzer

John G. (Jack) Kratzer, 79, passed peacefully surrounded by family members on December 10, 2011 at the Coatesville VA Medical Center. 

Jack was born and raised in Hollidaysburg, PA and joined the U. S. Air Force upon graduation from Hollidaysburg High School.  He served honorably in the communications field, and after a tour in Korea where he earned the Korean Service Medal, the U.N. Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal, returned home and married his lifetime friend, Jeanne Cassidy in 1957.  Together they raised six children: Julie, Andrew, Bernard (deceased), Vincent (married to Patricia Flanagan), Patricia (married to Michael DeFrank), and George (married to Sherri Niles). 

He has five grandchildren: Caitlin, Bradley, Erin, Eve and Sean.

 Jack retired in 1990 after more than 40 years as a railroad man, working for the Pennsylvania railroad, the Penn Central railroad, and Conrail.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life until his illness overcame him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 15, at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, 312 Clark Street, Hollidaysburg, where family and friends may call from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.  Burial will follow directly at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
