Nicholas P. “Nikos” Kolokithas, 33, of Downingtown, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at Crozer Chester Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Stephanie J. (nee Karahalis) Kolokithas, with whom he shared 5 wonderful years together, the last two years as husband and wife.
Born in Carlisle, he was the son of Pete S. and Irene N. Karathanasis Kolokithas of Mt. Holly Springs, PA.
He graduated from Shippensburg University in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in law enforcement and criminal justice.
Nick worked in internal sales for Witmer Associates in Coatesville for 4 years.
He was a former state trooper, stationed at the Avondale barracks for five years. A dedicated public servant, he served as a supervisor with Good Fellowship Ambulance Corp in West Chester for eight years. Nick was a member of Alert Fire Company of Downingtown, First West ChesterFire CompanyStation 51, and was associated with Citizens Fire Co. of Mt. Holly Springs and Yellow Breeches Ambulance Co. in Boiling Springs. He was also a member of the F.O.P. and A.H.E.P.A.
In addition to his wife and parents, Nick is survived by his brother, Sam P. Kolokithas and his wife, Janet of Mechanicsburg and their children, Sophia and Panos; brother-in-law, Peter A. Karahalis, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Woodlyn and their children, Joshua and Andrew; sister-in-law, Cynthia Cassella and her husband Michael of Exton and their children, Christopher, Caitlin and Cassandra; and by his mother-in-law, Ruth P. Karahalis of Downingtown. He was predeceased by his father in-law, Peter A. Karahalis, Sr.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at St. Luke Greek Orothodox Church, 35 N. Malin Road, Broomall. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, June 22nd from 6-8 p.m. at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown and at the church on Tuesday from 10 - 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in Northwood Cemetery, Downingtown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nicholas P. Kolokithas Memorial Fund in support of Nick's unborn child, c/o First National Bank of Chester County, P.O. Box 514, West Chester, PA 19381.
