Matilda M. Hanrahan, 95, of Chester Springs, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2012 at Neighborhood Hospice of West Chester with her family at her side. She was the wife of the late John E. Hanrahan, Sr., with whom she had shared 21 years of marriage at the time of his passing in 1960.
Born in Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Mary Waters Meyer.
Mrs. Hanrahan was employed as a cook for the Archdiocese in Brooklyn, NY for 18 years, retiring in 1988.
She was a former member of St. Clare’s Church in Rosedale, NY.
She is survived by her daughter, Eileen M. Brunner of Central Islip, NY, and by her son, John E. Hanrahan and his wife, Cathie, of Chester Springs. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her daughters, Patricia Eichner and Janet McCarthy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, at St. Elizabeth Church, 100 St. Elizabeth Drive, Chester Springs. A visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, and prior to Mass on Thursday at the church from 9:00 – 10:45 a.m. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the American Lung Association 527 Plymouth Road, Suite 403 Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.
