Mark F. DeTurk, 74, of Valley Township, formerly of Bethlehem, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Brandywine Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Elaine S. DeTurk (nee Silver), with whom he shared 51 years of marriage.
A Kutztown native, Mark was the son of the late Francis and Edith Schott DeTurk.
He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland.
Mr. DeTurk served his country in the U. S. Air Force from 1955 until his retirement as a Chief Master Sergeant and Base Sergeant Major in 1977 and received the following honors and awards: Air Force Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Strategic Air Command Outstanding Non-commissioned Officer of the Year – 1974, Strategic Air Command Civil Engineering Non-commissioned Officer of the Year – 1973, Air force Communication Service, and Western GEEIA Region Non-commissioned Officer of the Year – 1969. Following his retirement, he worked for PennDOT for 15 years prior to his illness.
Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was also a longtime member of Trout Unlimited.
In addition to his wife, Mr. DeTurk is survived by his daughter, Christine G. Robins and her husband, Gary; brother Jeffrey DeTurk and wife, Suzie; sister, Donna Dunkelberger and husband, Ron; three grandchildren, Lauren, Evan and Will Robins; uncle and nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 11th at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, where family and friends may call from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be in Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Newtown.
